Tahar Rahim
A big hit at Cannes, the French movie A Prophet stars Tahar Rahim in a highly praised performance as a young Arab man who is imprisoned at 19 and becomes a bigwig in the Corsican Mafia. Likened to Goodfellas, the movie comes out in North America this month. Rahim, 28, was born in France to Algerian parents. Later in the year, he’ll make his Hollywood debut in the Roman soldier epic The Eagle of the Ninth.
Anna Kendrick
Acclaimed for her role in Up in the Air and famous as the gossipy human Jessica in the Twilight series, Anna Kendrick will next star in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, which she describes as “definitely crazy, like Ferris Bueller’s Day Off with the action sequences from Kill Bill.” Hendrick, 24, became the second-youngest actress ever to be nominated for a Tony Award when she was just 13. That was for her role in the Broadway musical High Society.
Juno Temple
Juno Temple, the wild-haired daughter of British music video/ film director Julien Temple, was raised in the company of punk rockers and glam stars in London and L.A. before getting key roles in Notes on a Scandal and Atonement. In March, she’ll star in Noah Baumbach’s comedy Greenberg, and then in cult director Gregg Araki’s sci-fi sex comedy Kaboom. Temple, 20, was named after a towering butte in the Grand Canyon that her mother stood on when she was pregnant.
