March 2010

Hélène Joy is a Gemini Award winning actress currently starring as Audrey Sweeney in the critically acclaimed HBO series Durham County and as Dr. Julia Ogden, the female lead, in the popular Citytv series The Murdoch Mysteries.

This month, Movie Entertainment caught up with the talented and beautiful Australian-born actress to chat about her inspirations, what she does to relax and her guilty pleasures.

What or who inspired you to get into acting?
My first acting teacher Miss Lacy. She is still one of the most inspiring people I have ever met.

How do you like to relax?
With a book, on a remote beach. When that is not possible, I visit the spa and order the longest massage on the menu.

Favourite movie of all time?
Little Miss Sunshine.

What quality do you most admire in a person?
Openness.

What activities do you like to do in your free time?
Right now it is all about cooking, eating and dancing with friends… and lots of reading.

Who is the actor or director you’d most like to work with?
Parker Posey

What is the best advice you’ve ever given?
“Just say yes.”

Your ultimate vacation destination…
The Greek Islands or Zakynthos, oh wait… Morocco and The Sahara, or Mauritius. Okay, this answer could take up the whole page.

What is your guilty pleasure?
Ummm… travelling.

What is your favourite dish to make for dinner?
Thai food. Finding the right ingredients is an adventure that can take a whole day. Lychee martinis are a must.

If you weren’t acting, you would be….
Wishing I was acting.
