The Wire: Episode 39: Soft Eyes
No other show packs as much information
into one hour as The Wire. Each episode
follows several characters, several
storylines and is so crammed with nuance
and small strands of information you
sometimes feel like youre
lost in a Russian novel.
Standouts from Sunday night include:
Herc walking in on the mayor who just
happens to be getting
serviced
(and not by his wife). Herc thinks hes
finished until he has a chat with sly,
old Major Valchek who tells him that
careers have been launched on a helluva
lot less and to just shut up and play
dumb.
Cutty has all the hot moms in the hood
showing up at the gym with home cooking
cause they just appreciate what hes
doing for those kids! Spiders
mom tells Cutty she
throws
down good
in the kitchen
and elsewhere.
And finally, the cops have a grim laugh
over a mans
dying words:
You
ask who shot him?
Sure
he said a guy with a gun.
Best Line:
Tommy Carcetti on the
debate: Tomorrow night, I will
kick his ass. But the next morning, I
still wake up white in a city that ain't.
